Retreat Benefits

Having benefited from a week-long stay at the Our Lady of the Mountains Retreat House many years ago, I was particularly interested in a recent article in Yankee Magazine (titled "Seeking the Silence") describing various retreat houses in New England.
Back in 1989, I paid $100 for seven days at the retreat house, which included a private room and meals. The following list from Yankee Magazine reveals the going cost for personal retreats these days:
-
Eastern Point Retreat House in Gloucester, Massachusetts ($180 per weekend, includes room and meals).
-
Evensong by the Sea Ecumenical Retreat & Spirituality Center in Harwich Port, Massachusetts ($95 per night, includes accommodation and meals).
-
Genesis Spiritual Life Center in Westfield, Massachusetts (rates vary).
-
Greenfire Retreat in Tenants Harbor, Maine (no web site; $68 per night, includes accommodation and meals).
If you think about it, $180 per weekend is basically the financial equivalent of staying in a semi-posh hotel.
