Blog Days of Christmas

How time flies when one ignores blogging. I've been swept up in other activities for the last month, hence the lack of blog entries.

Christmas is not an issue. I do most of my shopping online, so my gift-choosing "projects" were completed long ago. Even the animals are taken care of. In fact, they probably have more "under the tree" than Wilbert and I do. I target "under the tree" because we haven't had one since moving to Spokane in 2002. It's not because we are descendants of Ebenezer Scrooge, but rather the antics of our animals and the lack of realistic space have prevented us from setting up a tree.

However, I've always loved Christmas trees. My Mum goes all-out with her decorations. She even place a second tree on her deck, complete with colored lights. During the winter months, a fire often burns in the grate at Mum's house. I miss being there for the holidays, or any time. It's hard to believe, but I haven't been back since 2002. Mum visits me in Washington at least twice a year, but I still long to take Foofer, Rainee and the demonic Kiki to visit their "Gamma."

Wilbert's work schedule is usually the prevailing force. This year, he has to work Christmas Day and the day after. The hours bring in good money, but I wish he could rest and take a few days off. As it is, I'll be cooking our festive dinner on Christmas Eve so we can celebrate at a decent hour. This year, I'm baking a large ham and grilling a selection of fresh vegetables.

Despite the aforementioned, I'm relatively happy and content. I'm looking forward to the holidays and staying snug in my house with a hot mug of tea and a good book.
