Some Last Wishes
Posted Wed, 03/31/10
Okay, if I die on the operating table tomorrow here's kind of what I want to follow:
-
I want the small cedar chest with Foofer's ashes to be buried with me, along with our best picture in frame (see below).
-
I'd prefer a Catholic funeral service but with no viewing or open casket. I've always hated people who STARE as a matter of habit, which they tend to do the most at funerals.
-
If anyone mutters "she's gone onto a better place" or "at least she's no longer in pain" at my funeral, Wilbert has my permission to haul off and shoot them. I'd rather be alive and in pain than pushing up daises, thank you. And I won't hesitate to haunt anyone who pushes the "she's better off" routine for lack of anything better to say.
-
Please plant a tree over my headstone. I truly do hate the sun beating down on me.
-
Rainee and Kiki will stay with my Mum. If she does not want the girls, then Wilbert has to take them but treat them in the fashion to which they have become accustomed. (Re: retaining their proper bedding, food, healthcare and all other sundry). Rainee has her own personalized blanket and pillow, while Kiki has two plush beds.
-
All of my money goes to Mum. If she doesn't want it, then I'd rather it was donated to the Benton-Franklin Humane Society in Kennewick, Washington (where I found Rainee six years ago – by the way, Happy Birthday Tweeter!). None of the money can be "gifted" to anyone else from Mum, but can be given to the Benton-Franklin Humane Society.
-
Computers, related equipment and my car will go to Mum or Wilbert, but if they decide to sell all proceeds have to go to Benton-Franklin Humane Society. These particular possessions cannot be gifted to anyone else, but only sold to profit the Benton-Franklin Humane Society.
-
Photographs and photo albums to Mum.
-
Digital camera and video recorder to Wilbert.
-
Music CD's to Wilbert.
-
Books (and there are many) should stay in the family because I spent several years building my collection, but if sold all proceeds have to go to Benton-Franklin Humane Society. These particular possessions cannot be gifted to anyone else, but only sold to profit the Benton-Franklin Humane Society.
-
My manuscripts and finished books remain the property of Mum and Wilbert; profit made in the present or future to be divided equally between them.
-
Clothes, shoes and bedding (lots of Asian design) to be given to the local Catholic Community Services.
Most people heading into surgery have fleeting thoughts of death, and if they deny it they are implicit liars. I'd prefer my last wishes to be known, although I have every confidence I'll be back at the keyboard this weekend relating my latest medical experience.
