Wilbert Basks in the Limelight

A few weeks ago Wilbert and I attended a Nurses Appreciation Luncheon and Awards Ceremony at St. Luke's Rehabilitation Institute, where he works. Prior to this, one of his co-workers called me to make sure we were going to the event because Wilbert was due to receive a special award.

Somehow Wilbert was drawn into providing "singing" entertainment for the event, along with a group of nurses (see photo of Wilbert below left in a top hat crooning "My Guy" to the tune of nursing term verses). After lunch, the awards were presented.

Wilbert received the usual "Certificate of Appreciation," but was genuinely surprised to also receive a special plaque for his "Excellence in Clinical Care" as part of professional rehabilitation nursing. I was happy for him, as he truly feels underappreciated at times.

Wilbert is a born ham, so he had a great time at the luncheon. He loves mingling and chatting with people. I smiled and did the same by rote, but I was glad when we finally went home and I was able to reclaim my private inner-sanctum. I would never make a good famous person – I'd never leave the house except under cover of darkness.
