Leisure Read

This was my horoscope for today:

If you wake up this morning and feel glued to the bed, perhaps that's where you should spend the day, Virgo. You've been working hard and long these past few weeks. It only makes sense that your body would rebel eventually. This is a day for rest and relaxation. The office will survive without you. Call in sick and then turn off the phone. You're likely to sleep better than you have in a long time.

I don't typically place too much stock in horoscopes. Most of the time they are completely off the mark. However, once in a blue moon, they are right on.

Last night I spent some time browsing through my bookcase, hoping a title might catch my eye. It's been more than six months since I've read for the sheer pleasure of it, just before the drive to complete Collective Obsessions began in earnest.

I finally landed on a hardcover edition of Lisey's Story by Stephen King. I've never read the book before, as my pristine copy of the novel attests. One of my lifelong habits is to note the date when I obtain a book inside the front flap, whether I buy it for myself or receive it as a gift. Imagine my surprise when I noticed Lisey's Story was dated November 2006.

Whatever the case, I'm thoroughly enjoying the read. It's wonderful to lose myself in someone else's writing rather than living and breathing my own.
