Bedridden & Abandoned

Posted Mon, 02/13/12

I've been suffering from a nasty cold the last few days. My head feels like it's in a vise-grip, compounded by coughing/sneezing spells that make it seem as if my skull will explode. It's a horrible bit of business.

However, I should count myself lucky. The last time I had a cold virus was nearly a decade ago, just after Wilbert and I moved to Washington. I've been cold-free since, so I'm probably long overdue.

It's frustrating in the face of my current workload, which I reluctantly set aside yesterday in order to rest. I fell asleep off and on, only to be rudely awakened by a coughing or sneezing jag. Kiki usually sleeps against the back of my legs, but she was of little comfort yesterday. She darted into the closet to get away from the racket and movement, leaving me to fend for myself. Kiki is a typical fussy-cat in that regard: God forbid Her Royal Highness should be disturbed in any way, shape or form.

I'm determined to stay out of bed today, no matter how punky I feel. Besides, if I crawl back under the covers Kiki will simply abandon me to cope alone - again.

There's too much to do, and so little time...
